To Watch or Not To Watch: Gudetama: An Eggcellent Adventure Review

Modern technologies would certainly amaze anybody from the past. Certainly, they’d be wowed at how humans have made such great use of technology. Among these amazing technologies, we see computer graphics as the star of the TV and movie industries. Using these technologies we have Spider-Man, really cool monsters, animals, and … an egg?  “Gudetama: An Eggcellent Adventure” was so amazing that it raced up to my top 10 TV shows within the week that I watched it.

This series on Netflix is about an egg and a chick on a journey across Japan to find their mother. This show, originally in Japanese, is weirdly funny and relaxing with its jokes and heartwarming plot of family and one’s mission in life. As Gudetama and his adorable chick brother go through this story to find their mother, surprising twists and turns are around every corner.

This show is, in short, amazing. The 10 minute long episodes are great for when you have so little time but you somehow have so much time (we’ve all been there). Even though this story has a pretty easy to understand plot (a child wants to find his mother), it has epic cliffhangers that make you want to watch more. It also has those “tugs at your heartstrings” quality moments that all of those actions packed MARVEL movies sometimes lack. Overall, I would rate this a 9.8 out of 10 because there were a couple confusing moments that I feel could have been developed better (even if they were not exactly significant to the plot and would just make the episode a minute longer) and there are some sad moments as well, which can be good for the story but might not be the best thing for the audience sometimes.
