BOS Nation FC is set to begin playing as an official member of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) in the 2026 season. The new team’s name is an anagram of Bostonian. This is not the first women’s soccer team to represent Massachusetts. Before the previous team folded in 2018, the Boston Breakers were Boston’s official NWSL team. Eight years later came the BOS Nation (the official name is still under debate). The new team had a controversial debut with a campaign based on the slogan “There are too many balls in this town.” The promotional video features different types of “balls” with male stars in Boston sports teams like the Red Sox and Bruins. Critics argued the promotional campaign ignored trans players and favored cis-gender female athletes instead. Spokespeople for BOS Nation apologized to the LGBTQ+ community and explained that they would continue their effort to create an inclusive environment. The NWSL will now have 14 teams, including NY/NJ’s Gotham FC, the NWSL’s 2024 champions. Famous Massachusetts natives Elizabeth Banks and Aly Raismam are investing in BOS Nation. Banks is famous for her roles in Pitch Perfect and The Hunger Games, while Raisman is an Olympic gymnast. BOS Nation FC will compete in the new White Stadium, specifically made for the new NWSL team. The owners have signed a 10-year lease agreement, allowing them to play in the White Stadium in 2026. Breaking more barriers, the team is all-women-owned and controlled. Now is the time to advocate for women in sports, and supporting BOS Nation is an entertaining way to be part of the action.
